Guowei Zhang started competing internationally in 2010 when he won the silver medal at the Asian Junior Championships behind Mutaz Essa Barshim. He won the silver medal again at the 2012 Asian Indoor Championships and equalled the Chinese Indoor record (2.31m) at the World Indoor Championships. One year later he broke the 26-year old record by jumping 2.32 in Nanjing. Another medal followed at the 2014 Asian Games where he placed second behind Barshim again.

 

2015 has been a great season for Guowei Zhang so far, as he placed third in the Diamond League meeting in Shanghai, first in the World Challange in Beijing and improved his personal best to 2.38m in the IAAF Diamond League, placing second behind Mutaz Essa Barshim.

Guowei Zhang knows how to put on a great show and we will definitely see more of him the coming years.
