Viola made her breakthrough when she finished second in the Kenyan trials of 1999. Only 15 years old she qualified for the 5000m of the WCH in Seville (Esp). She was too young to represent her country but Kenya knew a special talent was born. In 2000 she won the bronze medal in the World junior Cross Country Champions in Villamoura. In 2001 and 2002 she won the World junior Cross Country title and was the girl who achieved a repeat of this title. Later in 2002 she added a World junior title on 1500m in Kingston (Jam). Viola is in form three of Singori Girls High School and can only run races outside Kenya during school-holidays. Althoug trainingfacilities are not ideal she insists on finishing school first. There are weeks where she can't be allowed to go to and train on the track. Viola is from a family with 8 children but is at the moment the only one who is running. Nike pays her schoolfees and other expenses. She can even pay the schoolfees for her little brothers and sisters. Because of the lack of trainingpossibilities Viola cannot really go for the distance she likes the most; 5000m. Therefore she will focus 2004 mainly for the 1500m. If the school can allow her she would like to go to Athens and represent her country on senior-level.
