Caterine Ibargüen is a Colombian triple jumper but also competed in long jump and high jump before. At the 2004 Olympic Games she competed in the high jump and she holds the Colombian record of 1.93m.
Her best event is obviously triple jump and she won her first major medal in this event. In 2011, she won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Daegu with a jump of 14.84m. She reached the final at the 2012 London Olympics as one of the favorites. She won the silver medal with a jump of 14.80m in her last attempt.
Caterine Ibargüen had a great 2013 season by winning the overall Diamond Race and she traveled as one of the favorites to the World Championships in Moscow where she became World Champion with a jump of 14.85m!
Caterine continued her winning streak in 2014. She hasn't been beaten after the Olympic Games in 2012. In the 2014 Monaco Diamond League she jumped an amazing 15.31, which put her fifth on the world all-time list. She set a new Diamond League record, World Leading and Area Record.
The year 2015 was another great year for Caterine, continuing her winning streak, winning the Pan Am Games in Toronto and she succesfully defended her world title in Beijing. 2016 became the most important year for Caterine as she wanted to win the only medal she was still missing, the Olympic gold medal. She was only beaten once since the London Olympics so she was the clear favorite for gold in Rio. Caterine knows how to peak at the right moment, she produced her second best jump ever (15.17m) and won a historic gold medal for Colombia.
