Jip Vastenburg is a big talent and the Dutch hope for the future in longer distances. Since she was only 14 years old, she knew she wanted to become a great marathon athlete like her idol Paula Radcliffe. She decided to move to Apeldoorn when she was only 16 years old, to be able to train with her coach every day. She finished high school two years later, and decided to fully focus on athletics. Her choice really paid off as she won the European Junior title 5000m in 2013.
2014 was a successful season for Jip as she won the Dutch titles 5000m, 10k and half marathon. She also ran a fast 32:11.90 for 10.000m in Stanford which was enough to qualify for the European Championships later that summer in Zürich. There she only missed the podium by one second and finished fourth, which is still a great result for a 20 year old.
Jip started her 2015 season great by running a fast 31:35.48 in Palo Alto and fulfilling the standards for Beijing and Rio de Janeiro. She also claimed the victory in the 10.000m at the 2015 European U23 Championships. Jip finished as 11th and second European in Beijing, which is a great achievement for a 21-year-old athlete.
Jip is very determined to become a successful marathon athlete in the future. Her dream is to represent the Netherlands at the 2020 Olympic marathon in Tokyo. At the Rio Olympics she took part in the 10,000m.
