Julien Wanders starts athletics when he is only 6 years old but only makes the decision for the middle and long distances when he turns 15. In 2013, at the age of 17, he represents Switzerland for the first time at the European Junior Cross Country Championships. In the following years he wears the Swiss vest four more times at international championships. As a junior he knows how to break records, in 2015 he breaks the Swiss 5000m junior record of Markus Ryffell by running 13:48. He also sets a new Swiss junior record of 28:49 for 10km. In 2016 he wins his first national title at the senior level in the 5000m. He finishes 2016 in style with a new NR over 10km in Houilles where he runs 28:22.
Julien mainly trains in Geneva, Iten (Kenya) and St-Moritz. Training with the best athletes in the world in Kenya motivates him to work hard. He hopes to be among the best athletes in the world in the future, on the track and later on the road.
